The Annunciation

Calling all lovers of classic art with a modern  aesthetic! I bring you a very blue and emotive Annunciation. 

In between Mary and Gabriel there is a votive candle holder, seen in many churches, often with an icon of Mary above the candles. I placed it there for design but also at Mama Mary’s fiat she became that icon to us. Her yes meant everything. 

What would it mean for you to say yes to Jesus?

Fun fact: when I was sponging in the dark blue background I didn’t have enough paint to fill in that area cascading toward Mary, but then I took a good look at the space left and was amazed at the effect of the Holt Spirit coming over her. This effect was all Holy Spirit lead, and it’s one of my favorite paintings.
